About us
More than a café – a place for young people, culture, creativity and community.
Musikcafé After Eight is a non-profit youth and cultural association in the heart of Jakobstad, Finland. Since 1987, we have worked to create an open, creative and welcoming meeting place where people can connect, take part and bring their ideas to life.
Our activities combine youth work, culture, creativity and everyday life in many different ways. Through our youth workshops and outreach youth work, we support young people in finding their strengths, developing new skills and taking steps towards education, working life and greater independence. Our workshops offer opportunities to learn by doing in areas such as media, design, crafts, technology, café and kitchen work.
Culture is another important part of After Eight. We organise concerts, exhibitions, events, courses and other activities that bring together local talent, different cultures and diverse forms of expression.
At the heart of the organisation is our café and lunch restaurant – a natural meeting place for visitors, young people, staff and the wider community. Here, good food, creativity and people come together in a relaxed and inspiring environment.
Over the years, After Eight has grown into a unique combination of youth work, cultural production, social support, creative workshops, café and community space. We believe in participation, equality, creativity and the idea that everyone should have the opportunity to grow, contribute and find their place.
Welcome to After Eight – a place where something is always happening.

For young people between ages 15-29 and who have completed comprehensive school but are without a place to study, have interrupted their studies, are looking for meaningful activities, are interested in finding a place to study, work or work placement.
Together we look at different possibilities and help you make concrete goals. We will guide you to different services and authorities and provide you with practical tools for managing everyday life.
CAFÉ & LUNCH
The concept of our lunch restaurant at Musikcafé After Eight is to blend new flavours with traditional home cooking. The food is prepared by using local, top quality ingredients. During the summer our customers can enjoy our beautiful courtyard, an oasis right in the city center.
Our aim is for the café to always be able to offer gluten-free and vegan options.
